My family many years ago started looking for a place still open to eat in our small town on Christmas eve... Finally we stumbled upon a Chinese restaurant in a shopping plaza.. It has been about 13 years now that we have been having Christmas Eve dinner there. They serve family style and it is always such a treat.. then we drive around and look at decorations. All go to sleep early and wake up in the morning with bloody marys, and mimosas at about 6am.... this always reminds me of great holidays with family!

Every Christmas as a child my grandmother would make my brother and me new flannel pjs. You could not wear them before Christmas eve. We would come home from Church and run to our rooms to get in the cozy pjs. It snows a lot here in Erie PA and you need warm and cozy!

So now that I have two little girls I am doing the same for them. Theirs are hanging in their closets right now! It helps me pass on a tradition and makes me think of my grandma at the same time.

I hope you have a blessed holiday!

We have a wonderful French Toast breakfast every year complete with all the extras! It makes you feel all warm and it is a great, relaxing start to the day!

one of our favorite traditions is our kids take turns opening a gift each day. but these are not gifts i've BOUGHT. they are the Christmas books and CD's that we have from previous years that i wrap up. then we make sure to read that book, or listen to that CD that day. it's fun for them. and forces me to at least read each book once (hopefully more!) to them.

Oh, love her stuff!!!

So hard to choose just one holiday tradition! Baking special cookies we reserve for only this time of year would have to be at the top. This fun activity has everyone involved and each kiddo gets to make the cookie of their choice. It's so fun especially when the snow is falling and the fire is burning in the wood stove. xo

These are such a great little reminder, what a cute idea! My fave tradition is making sure we are home on Christmas morning with the kiddos, getting up to filled stockings, presents, and seeing the cookies and milk we left for Santa gone. The best part of Christmas!

Those are so neat and so very true. I am really disappointed at how we've raised my daughter so far. :( We enjoy making our gingerbread house together and my daughter, mom and I started going to the Nutcracker Ballet together last year. We go again in a week! Can't wait!

We open gifts with my family on Christmas Eve. One year we had gifts that needed to be put together for my sister and I. My family took us out to look for Santa Clause. We waited until we saw some lights in the sky (from an airplane) and my uncle had time to put the items together. Then my parents said the lights were Santa heading away from our house and we went home to open our presents.

My sister and I now have kids and every year we go and look for Santa leaving my parents house before they can open thier gifts.

This is a tradition I just started last year with my kids...it's based on an Italian Christmas tradition...on Christmas Eve, we write mushy, extra sweet love notes to each other!!! We put them in big envelopes under the tree and we start Christmas morning by opening our letters and reading how much each member of our family loves us! Then, it's present time :)

Those prints are FABULOUS! :) How TRUE..wonderful reminders.

Every year my hubby, kids, parents get together with a bunch of bricks of sculpey and make Christmas Ornaments with the clay. Every year we get to see the ornaments from years past and what goofy stuff the kids were into before and how much better they are getting at making ornies. Great memories live in each ornament! :)

My favorite Christmas tradition is the Christmas Ev e meal of the 7 fishes. I know it probably sounds gross, but it's not. And if you are an Italian you probably also celebrate like this...

At Christmas Eve dinner there is no "meat" eaten. Just fish. We do shrimp, sole, scallops, stuffed squid(for the pasta), crab sauce, etc. It just reminds me of Christmas Eve at my Grandmother's house. She passed 2 years ago. I miss her so much. I have done the Christmas Eve dinner for about 4 years now at my house. Not exactly the same as my grams, but I am honored to cook it.

Happy Holidays!

Am I too late for this one? I'm all disoriented date-wise. Hopefully not.

We had very few Christmas traditions in my family. Every Christmas was different. But we were always allowed to open one gift on Christmas eve and it was always pajamas. Does that count?

My favorite tradition (of sorts) is after the kids have gone to bed Xams eve, hubby and I start leaving the clues that Santa came- "snowy" footprints, eaten cookies, and all the dolls and stuffed animals turned towards the door and festooned with ribbons and candy canes. The kids LOVE to see that the dolls saw Santa and got presents as well!

Every year we spend the night at my hubby's grandparents and wake up there Chrstmas Morning. I think it is a very special tradition that brings the whole fam together...even though we all live just a few miles from each other. Since we do that...my hubby and I started our own tradition to do something special with just the 4 of us. We put our shoes out on December 5th, and when we wake up Sinterklaas (the Dutch Santa) has thrown candy (Dutch chocolate letters) in our shoes! Yup, I have eaten half of my chocolate K already today, lol.

When I was little we always opened our gifts on Christmas Eve. Imagine my surprise when I discovered this was not the norm! Christmas morning was for Santa's gifts. We always dressed up and had a lovely dinner then we would open our presents. It just seemed so much more special having festivities in the evening. My husband opened his gifts in the morning, so now we have a conflict!:( Lori

My favorite family Christmas tradition is that my entire family always comes to my house on Christmas Eve. No matter what. Luckily they all live within about an hour of me. We eat "snacky" kinds of things, cheese, crackers, sausage, bbq meatballs, etc and lots of cookies and eggnog. We exchange gifts and just enjoy being together. Depending on the year, our gifts to each other vary greatly in dollar value, but are always from the heart. This is the one constant in our lives. Other holidays are fluid in location and whether or not we are all able to get together, but not Christmas Eve.

Thanks for giving me a chance to share this and reflect on how very much this tradition means to me!

Every Christmas Eve, my mom would hold an open house for family and friends, and it really filled the house with cheer and warmth. My sister and I would get dressed up and greet everyone who arrived. We would go to Mass Christmas Eve first and the fun would not end until after midnight. my poor parents were so tired when my sister and I woke up Christmas morning....especially as they could not put out presents until after everyone left. Then Christmas morning, we would run downstairs in our PJ's, open our stockings before my parents got up, and my dad would make a special Christmas morning breakfast for everyone.
